My First Short Film…Kinda

I am by no means planning on becoming a filmmaker, but yet here I am making videos.

That’s not to say it wasn’t fun – the process was pretty enjoyable, ESPECIALLY writing the script and surrounding story. So let me set the scene for you:

My EMF221 class, Principles of Electronic Media and Film, had a 2-4 minute sound and image narrative final project. For this, I wrote a story treatment at the beginning of the semester. The project required that we bring one scene of our story to life.

The name of my story is North of the Border, and it’s about a college student who has a thriving YouTube career – he also happens to be the son of a senator. After leaving a party, he decides to livestream to his fans, and ends up coming across a murder – and filming that murder for all his fans to see. This incites the wrath of a notorious gang, and everything goes downhill from there.

The scene I brought to life happens some time after the incident, where our student, named Kevin, finally decides to tell one of his friends about his plight – unwittingly, putting her right in the line of fire.
